Mark Hilsdon

Lower Elementary Teacher

Mark grew up in Middletown, Connecticut, the youngest of seven in a very musical family where music, art, and theater were always present. At age twelve, he joined Oddfellows Playhouse in Middletown, discovering a creative community that played a formative role in shaping his life.

During college, Mark spent summers working at an international camp in Virginia, where young people from around the world came together. It was there that he first experienced teaching and was introduced to Montessori education—a philosophy that has guided his work for the past forty years.

Since then, Mark has taught in both private and public Montessori schools in Connecticut and Virginia. With Montessori teaching credentials at both the Primary and Elementary levels, he continues to find joy in guiding children’s curiosity and creativity every day.

Mark’s wife, Maureen, is also a Montessori teacher, and together they are raising three children: Noah, Frances, and Stella.
