Laura P. Wilson, LPC, Parent Educator.

First and foremost, Laura is a wife and mom of a 26-year-old daughter born and raised in West Hartford. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor and has 26 years as a middle school counselor in West Hartford. She has studied and taught parenting skills for the past 16 years, including gentle parenting and the power of mindful parenting. Laura is currently offering parenting advice to parents voluntarily, happy not to be working and fully enjoying retirement.

Join us for an evening of parenting tips that will increase your understanding that :

Modeling is your greatest teacher.
Our kids need to make mistakes and learn from them.
Emotional kids are unable to think & how you can help.
Your relationship is key as you have no control, you only have influence.
Learning to use S.H.U.V. is a powerful tool.

Sharing these insights of grounding research-based parenting principles has become my passion and my journey into the work I am offering to parents and families. My hope is to increase the joy you experience while parenting. I believe this will reignite your confidence as a parent.

The Montessori School of Greater Hartford is having their 3rd Annual Elementary Jog-A-Thon on Wednesday, November 16 from 1:00-2:30 PM. This event evolved from two lower elementary traditions that were very popular in past years—the Mitten Run and a holiday gift to a charitable organization. We decided to combine the two and begin a new tradition—the MSGH Elementary Jog-A-Thon! The format will be similar to year’s past events in which families sponsored their children for each lap they ran to raise money to support a family in need during the upcoming holidays! All students are encouraged to participate and may choose to raise money to support the project by running laps, financially backed by their sponsors, during the two-hour event. At the end of the event, students will tally their laps and then, if sponsored, crunch the numbers to determine their total contributions to the project. They will then collect donations, which will be pooled and used to meet some of the needs, and hopefully a few wishes, of the two families that we will support during the upcoming holiday season.

The representatives from the West Hartford Police and fire departments met us at Town Hall to assist in our ‘gift brigade’ delivery. The students were SO excited to see everyone there! During that time, a couple of police and fire personnel also participated the jog-a-thon! I wanted to extend an enthusiastic and heartfelt invitation to any individuals who wish to join us to support the students and celebrate their participation in the event! The students would be thrilled to have fire firefighters join them for a lap or two or as long as they care to run!

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Friday, November 18. Thank you in advance for considering this outreach opportunity and we hope to see a firefighter or two at the jog-a-thon!

Many parents are taken by surprise when they hear that Montessori’s practical life activities (the scrubbing, polishing and sweeping, the ‘thank you’s and your welcomes,’ etc., that look like “mere housekeeping” and “good manners”) are the essential foundation for everything that comes after – including reading, writing and math. Elementary Jog-A-Thon

The Montessori School of Greater Hartford is having their 4th Annual Elementary Jog-A-Thon on Wednesday, November 20 from 1:30-3:00 PM. This event evolved from two lower elementary traditions that were very popular in past years—the Mitten Run and a holiday gift to a charitable organization. We decided to combine the two and begin a new tradition—the MSGH Elementary Jog-A-Thon! The format will be similar to year’s past events in which families sponsored their children for each lap they ran to raise money to support a family in need during the upcoming holidays! All students are encouraged to participate and may choose to raise money to support the project by running laps, financially backed by their sponsors, during the two-hour event. At the end of the event, students will tally their laps and then, if sponsored, crunch the numbers to determine their total contributions to the project. They will then collect donations, which will be pooled and used to meet some of the needs, and hopefully a few wishes, of the two families that we will support during the upcoming holiday season. The representatives from the West Hartford Police and fire departments met us at Town Hall to assist in our ‘gift brigade’ delivery. The students were SO excited to see everyone there! During that time, a couple of police and fire personnel also participated the jog-a-thon! I wanted to extend an enthusiastic and heartfelt invitation to any individuals who wish to join us to support the students and celebrate their participation in the event! The students would be thrilled to have fire firefighters join them for a lap or two or as long as they care to run! In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Thursday, November 16. Thank you in advance for considering this outreach opportunity and we hope to see a firefighter or two at the jog-a-thon!
