“True teachers are those who use themselves as bridges over which they invite their students to cross; then, having facilitated their crossing, joyfully collapse, encouraging them to create their own.” - Nikos Kazantzakis
Jacki Romano, MSGH’s learning specialist, holds a lower elementary certification from American Montessori Society. She has taught in Montessori schools since 1987 in a variety of capacities: primary class assistant, music teacher, lower elementary assistant, lower elementary co-teacher directing the reading and spelling program, upper elementary literature guide, and learning specialist. Jacki is certified in both Orton-Gillingham and Wilson Reading programs, and holds certificates, the only titles awarded, in all areas of Lindamood-Bell reading decoding, comprehension, and spelling programs. Since 2000, she has worked exclusively as a learning specialist.
Because of her belief that a misbehaving child is a discouraged child, in the 1990’s Jacki began facilitating Positive Discipline classes for parenting groups, teachers, and school administrators. In 2002, she became certified within the Positive Discipline organization to train facilitators as well. Over the years, Jacki has presented countless Positive Discipline workshops throughout CT and NY. Some of her parenting and teacher classes are targeted more specifically: ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Adolescents, Single Parents, Adult Children of Parents with Dementia. All are modeled on the Positive Discipline foundation of kindness and firmness at all times.
